The Everest Three Pass Trek is a challenging, high-altitude adventure that takes trekkers through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Himalayas. This route includes crossing three major passes: Kongma La (5,535m), Cho La (5,420m), and Renjo La (5,360m), offering unparalleled views of iconic peaks like Mount Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,463m), and Cho Oyu (8,201m). Along the way, trekkers also visit popular highlights such as Everest Base Camp (5,364m), Kala Patthar (5,545m), and the Gokyo Ri viewpoint (5,360m).
This trek is best suited for experienced trekkers due to its high altitude and long duration, typically taking around 17 to 21 days. It requires excellent physical fitness and mental resilience. Proper acclimatization is crucial to avoid altitude sickness, and most trekkers opt for an anti-clockwise route for better acclimatization. But respecting the spiritual significance of clockwise circumambulation (Kora) in Buddhist spirituality, we have introduced a clockwise trek for Three Pass which has a better view and experience compared to the anti-clockwise trek. Each pass offers a unique vantage point with spectacular panoramic views of the Himalayan range, high-altitude lakes, and glacial valleys. In particular, the view from top pf Renjo La pass and Gokyo Ri is regarded as one of the best in the Everest region.
Cultural highlights include visits to traditional Sherpa villages, such as Namche Bazaar, Thame, and Dingboche, where you can experience the rich culture and hospitality of the local Sherpa community. This trek also passes by several Buddhist monasteries, offering insight into the spiritual life of the region.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, your journey to Everest Three Pass Trek starts! Here’s what to expect and how to prepare for a smooth start to your trekking adventure.

Pre-Paid Taxi: Inside the airport terminal, you will find two pre-paid taxi booths. The fixed rates are NPR 800 for rides to Thamel (6 am - 8 pm) and NPR 1000 (8 pm - 6 am). Bargaining outside the terminal may get you a lower rate (around NPR 600), but be prepared for some negotiation. (Please note that the rates are subject to change from your time of booking vs. your time of arrival)

Porter Assistance: Porters outside airport may offer to help with luggage for a fee. If you do not wish to use their service, a polite but firm "No, thank you" will suffice.

Alternative Itinerary for Flight Delays to Lukla
Flights between Kathmandu (or Ramechhap) and Lukla are frequently delayed due to unpredictable weather. Here’s what happens if your flight is delayed or cancelled:

Day 2: We will attempt to board the fixed flight to Lukla as per the original plan. If the flight is cancelled due to weather, you’ll return to your hotel in Kathmandu or Ramechhap for an additional night.

Day 3: We will again try to fly to Lukla. If flights are still cancelled, we will attempt to charter a helicopter, provided they are available and weather conditions allow. Travelers will need to use their emergency fund for this option, which can cost up to $500 per person. The exact price depends on availability and group size. Once in Lukla, we will follow the original itinerary to Everest Three Pass but will descend one day earlier to make our return flight.

Day 4: If helicopters and fixed flights are unavailable, we will return to Kathmandu by private vehicle. Though you won’t reach Everest Three Pass, an alternative trek to Annapurna Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit will be organized, which offers equally incredible views and a memorable experience. It’s wise to allow for extra days at the end of your trip in case return flights from Lukla are delayed.

Flight Departure: Flights to Lukla are occasionally redirected to Ramechhap Airport (a 5-hour drive from Kathmandu). If this occurs, you’ll depart early on Day 2, with transportation provided at no extra cost.

Day 2: Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding (2610m)
On day two, we begin with an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2840m). If the skies are clear, you’ll be treated to incredible views of the Himalayas from the plane, setting the perfect tone for your adventure. After arriving in Lukla, enjoy a hearty breakfast at Yak Hotel, followed by a safety briefing and an introduction to your porters. Once geared up, you’ll start your trek along the beautiful Dudh Kosi River, known for its milky white waters. Today’s trek is a gentle introduction, covering a distance of approximately 8.5 km to the village of Phakding (2610m). The hike will take around 3 hours, with an ascent of 350m and a descent of 560m.

Day 3: Phakding (2610m) to Namche Bazaar (3440m)

Day 5: Namche Bazaar (3440m) to Thame (3820m)
Starting your Everest High Passes Clockwise Trek from Namche Bazaar, one of the most famous Sherpa towns, you will follow the picturesque trail along the Bhote Koshi River, known for its stunning views of the Himalayas. This route takes you through forests of rhododendron and pine, offering a serene and refreshing experience for trekkers.
Your first highlight is the beautifully mud-plastered stupa at Phurte, a sacred site that reflects the region’s deep spiritual roots. As you continue, the next notable stop is Thamo, a small, peaceful Sherpa village, home to the ancient Thamo Gompa, an important Buddhist monastery.
Descending sharply, you'll pass by the Khumbu Hydroelectric Plant, a vital source of energy for the region, before reaching Thame, a village nestled at the mouth of the Khumbu Valley. Day 7: Lungdhen (4380m) to Gokyo (4790m) via Renjo La Pass (5360m)
The Renjo La Pass trek is one of the most exhilarating days on the Everest High Passes route. Starting from Lungden, the trail leads you through stunning alpine landscapes as you journey toward the Gokyo Lakes. The initial part of the hike is relatively easy, but as you approach the summit of Renjo La Pass (5,360m), the ascent becomes more challenging.
As you ascend, the spectacular views of towering Himalayan giants like Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu will unfold, providing a breathtaking backdrop.
Upon crossing the pass, you’ll descend towards Dudh Pokhari, the third lake in the pristine Gokyo Valley, home to the world’s highest freshwater lake system. After reaching the village of Gokyo, you will take a well-deserved break.

Day 8: Trek from Gokyo (4790m) to Thangnak (4750m)
You will start your day with an early morning trek to Gokyo Ri (optional), one of the most rewarding viewpoints in the Everest region. Reaching the summit, you’ll be greeted by an awe-inspiring panorama of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan peaks, including Makalu and Lhotse. The sight of the morning sun illuminating these colossal mountains is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
After savoring the views, descend to Gokyo village for a hearty breakfast before continuing your trek on the Everest High Passes route, known for its stunning yet strenuous terrain. As you navigate the rocky slopes, you’ll pass by the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier in Nepal, and spot a beautiful frozen lake that marks your way. On your way to Thangnak, after crossing the second of Gokyo’s stunning lakes, you’ll traverse the lateral moraine of the glacier. By the end of the day, you’ll reach the peaceful village of Thangnag, a perfect stop before tackling the famous Cho-La Pass.

The Cho La Pass is the second high pass along the Everest High Passes Trek. The trail is rugged and involves traversing frozen rocks, making it an adventurous yet manageable route for experienced hikers.
Starting from Phedi, you’ll make your way up a narrow and rocky valley, with the landscape becoming increasingly captivating as you climb. Upon reaching the summit of Cho La Pass, adorned with fluttering prayer flags, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of a frozen lake beside the pass. The panoramic vistas of towering peaks, such as Kyajo Ri, Tengkangpoche, Numbur, and Kangchung, create a truly awe-inspiring experience.
As you descend from Cho La Pass, the path leads sharply towards Dzongla, navigating through beautiful landscapes dotted with pine trees and glacier crevasses. As you descend from Chola, the path merges with the main Everest Base Camp trek. This intersection leads you northward along the Khumbu Glacier's fragile moraine to reach Lobuche, a quaint stopover with breathtaking views. Along the way, you'll pass notable landmarks, including the Italian Pyramid, a research station offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas, and approach the Changri Glacier's terminal moraine.
Crossing the Changri Glacier on foot is an unforgettable experience as you make your way to Gorak Shep, a small but significant settlement nestled at the base of Kala Patthar. Gorak Shep offers a unique vantage point to take in the beauty of surrounding peaks like Pumori, Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse, giving you a real sense of the grandeur of the Everest region.
In the evening, we will embark on a short but rewarding hike to Kala Patthar. This spot is famous for offering the best sunset views of Mount Everest—an iconic sight that will stay with you forever. After witnessing this magical moment, we’ll return to Gorak Shep for an overnight stay, resting amidst the serene beauty of the Himalayas.

Day 12: Gorakshep (5140m) to Everest Base Camp (5364m) then Descend to Lobuche (4910m)
Your adventure begins with a hearty breakfast in Gorakshep, the final settlement before reaching the legendary Khumbu Glacier and Everest Base Camp. From Gorakshep, the trek follows the rugged moraine trails of the Khumbu Glacier, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountains.
Your destination, the Everest Base Camp, is located just below the famous Khumbu Icefall, a natural marvel that climbers cross during their ascent to the summit. The base camp is marked by colorful prayer flags, symbolizing the dreams and aspirations of trekkers from all over the world.
After celebrating this incredible achievement, you’ll retrace your steps back to Gorakshep, descending through the same path you took earlier. From Gorakshep, you’ll continue your journey back to Lobuche.

Day 13: Lobuche (4910m) to Chhukung (4730m) via Kongma La Pass (5535m)
Starting from Lobuche, you’ll follow a rugged trail lined with serene frozen lakes before reaching the Kongma La Pass, a point marked by a unique crane-shaped marker. This trek is known for its panoramic views of some of the world’s most iconic peaks, including Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Makalu, Baruntse, and the stunning Ama Dablam. After taking in these breathtaking sights, you'll descend into the peaceful Nigyang Khola Valley and reach Chhukung Village, an important acclimatization stop for trekkers preparing for the climb to Island Peak.
The trail from Kongma La to Chhukung is both rewarding and remote. While there are no permanent settlements here, this area serves as a yak pasture for local Sherpas. In recent years, Chhukung has gained popularity among trekkers due to its proximity to the famous Island Peak and Amphu Lapcha, making it a hotspot for those looking to acclimatize before scaling higher altitudes. Upon arrival in Chhukung, you will be greeted by a mesmerizing view of the Island Peak and the rugged terrain of the Amphu Lapcha Pass.

Day 14: Chhukung (4730m) to Tengboche (3860m)
After a hearty breakfast in Chhukung, your trek begins toward Chubejung Kharka, passing through the quaint village of Bibre. Following the serene Imja River you reach Dingboche—a popular stop on treks to Everest. From Dingboche, the trail branches toward Pheriche before descending into the valley toward Orsho.
From Orsho, you’ll follow the west bank of the Imja Khola River, leading to Somare and then onward to Pangboche. After a short rest, the route ascends, passing through the Pangboche Monastery and heading toward Deboche, where a steep descent awaits. Altitudes will exceed 5,545 meters at the highest points. As such, a Passenger Self-Assessment Form is required to ensure you are physically capable of handling the demands of high-altitude trekking.
Single Supplement:

Once in Lukla, we will follow the regular Everest Three Pass trek itinerary, adjusting by descending one day sooner to take the return flight on Day 14.
